FEMALE SEXUAL AROUSAL DISORDER
Many of us are unaware of the alarming statistics that reveal that as high as 43 per cent of women suffer from female sexual arousal disorder. It has also been revealed that, this disorder is more common in women than men who suffer from erectile dysfunction. The fact is that many women suffer in silence and face embarrassment in coming forward and discussing their problems openly. Many years down the line, several therapies, gels were designed to increase the sexual arousal in women, but to no effect. Women suffering from this disorder were also advised to undergo certain vaginal exercises that would help them with the lubrication during an intercourse. However this also did not prove to be of much help. Researches were constantly on their toes for developing a drug on parallel lines of male Viagra that would also help the women with their problem.
According to Professor John Thorp, Lead research professor in the University of North Carolina, Flibanserin is supposedly a poor antidepressant. This drug also failed to bring out any success in the area of heart diseases. So now, just like Viagra for men, women too have answers to their problems related to poor sexual arousal.
FEMALE VIAGRA
Several laboratory clinical trials conducted on animals and humans showed that flibanserin when administered to females increased their libido. The trials were carried out on 2000 women from US, Canada and Europe. The trial study was funded by the manufacturer Boehringer Ingelheim. It was researched and found that women who took 100mg of this drug once a day for their low libido, reported improvements in their sexual desire and had pretty good satisfactory sexual experiences. Thus, flibanserin was the accidental discovery for treating low libido in females and is more popularly known as ‘Female Viagra’. However, many doctors are still skeptical about the ability of this drug to treat the sexual arousal disorder in women.
Female Viagra works by increasing the levels of testosterone in the blood, thereby increasing the libido in women. This drug has proved to be effective in women who have got their hysterectomy done and also for women aged 50 and above.
This drug needs to be taken just once a day, and 45 minutes before any sexual activity. The effect of this drug lasts for about 4 – 6 hours. However, if the dosage needs to be increased then a doctor needs to be consulted. Exceeding the dosage may also call for increase in the onset of side effects.
When female Viagra is administered, it increases the genital blood flow along with vaginal compliance, which in turn results in extreme pleasure during sexual activity. Women have reported that on taking this drug, the lubrication in the vaginal area increased which resulted in a satisfied intercourse.
In case women have missed a dose of female Viagra, then skip that current day’s dose and go back to the regular dose as per schedule from the next day. Never take 2 doses at one go.
Similar to Viagra, female Viagra too needs to be stored in cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. The best temperature for storing this drug is 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). However, refrigerators and bathroom are not the ideal place for storing female Viagra.
However, despite of the several side effects of female Viagra, FDA has rejected this drug as a daily pill for increasing sexual disorder in women. The reason cited throws light on the fact that this drug has many side effects on women. Some of them being, depression, fatigue and bouts of fainting spell. FDA will soon take a decision in the coming months about this drug. Despite its disapproval by the FDA, female Viagra is still available online with many pharmacies at cheaper rates and attractive discounts. One also needs to note that though FDA has rejected Female Viagra as a drug for treating sexual disorders in women, it has not yet put a ban on it. The women out there need to decide what to choose and what not to. A doctor’s advice is recommended before they go on to take female Viagra.
